Fun life tips from death’s abyss

by: Dan McNamee

Come closer.  Lean over the edge. Careful now, but get a good look. Consider the abyss for a moment.

Peer into the darkness. But not for too long.

Lift the grim reaper's cloak. Is he wearing underwear? I bet he isn't.

How do you make sense of a pancreatic cancer diagnosis at age 40? Leaving behind a young wife and two small kids? The answer is, you don't. You can't.

But for over four years, through nine months of chemo and two medical trials, I tried. I mean, I really tried. And, while I was at it, I also tried to understand why two women tried to fight me in a cancer ward waiting room. And why Santa Claus tied his own shoes together in 1984.

This life is absurd, but it seems it's the only one we have.

Everything that makes me happy makes me sad
